Here at Firstmed we have noticed that we receive a lot of phone calls from women enquiring about the ED treatments we supply. It really serves to hammer home the point that erectile dysfunction affects more than just one person. Often the partners of those suffering from ED are just as confused, afraid and frustrated.
Erectile Dysfunction undoubtedly has a profound effect on a man’s life and on his relationship. It can cause loss of intimacy, lack of dialogue and resentment between partners. This is because impotence strikes at the very heart of a man’s self-confidence, so when it occurs, many men instinctively try to avoid both sex and discussion of the problem with their partner.
From a partner’s perspective, the inexplicable communication breakdown can be confusing. Contrary to the fears of many women, a penis that won’t get erect is not evidence of a lack of male sexual desire. Any number of issues (anxiety chief among them) may override even a strong libido. This ‘betrayal’ by their bodies leaves men depressed, vulnerable and often close to despair. Suffers might emotionally and physically withdrew from their partners. This may prompt their partner to struggle with the notion that they are no longer attractive, Even if they are assured to the contrary.
Erectile dysfunction does not respond well to neglect and may erode a relationship if not discussed in an open and frank fashion. The taking of ED treatments should never be shrouded in shame and secrecy, as this furthers the gulf between partners. The decision about which treatment to take should be a joint one.
Firstmed encourages women to take a more active role in their partner’s recovery. They can do this by finding out information on the different treatment options available and by finding out the steps that the sufferer needs to take to aid his recovery.
